News Latest news Free public wi-fi and equipment to help with home schooling Free access to the internet from EE EE are offering a free support scheme for children who need help when using the internet for online learning at school. Eligible children or their parents and carers can access unlimited mobile data to help with online learning until July 2021. They are also removing all data charges for access to BBC Bitesize (read more about BBC Bitesize in our post here) while schools are closed. Read more about EE's free access to the internet here Free public wi-fi via BT BT are offering schools free wi-fi vouchers which can then be given to pupils in need (aged 16 or under) who would otherwise be unable to access the internet at home. Each voucher will allow free of charge access on the internet until the end of July 2021. Access will be via BT's wi-fi hotspot network which reaches around 20% of UK homes, so BT recommend checking that coverage is available via their online checker before applying. Applications for vouchers can only be made by schools, so get in touch with your school first. Read more about the BT free public wi-fi scheme here Free laptops and tablets The Department of Education are providing laptops and tablets to disadvantaged children and young people in years 3 to 13. There are comprehensive guidelines about eligibility which you can read here. Applications can only be made by schools, colleges or other FE institutions, so parents, carers, children and young people will need to contact them directly to discuss their access to online learning.
