Role: Fundraising Volunteer

Hours: One half day a week in the office (additional hours as required)

Join the Haven team as a fundraising volunteer and play a vital role in how our charity runs.

Volunteers will keep track of the donations that we receive, community and corporate fundraising, and much much more.

The Role:

We currently receive donations from various groups, companies and individuals. We are looking for a volunteer who can liaise with these existing donors, manage the donations, and look to increase our fundraising potential. We would like to be able to provide all our families with self care packs called ‘Mac Packs’ at the start of our work with them, and so need to source items for these.

We are also looking for any potential companies and services that might offer discounted opportunities for family events.

Reporting to the Business Services Manager and/or Volunteer Co-ordinator.

This role may require some flexibility e.g. with collecting donations at certain times.

Primary Objective:

To manage any donations we receive at Haven and to identify and contact companies and services, by phone or letter, to increase useful donations and opportunities for our families.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • To collect or receive donations on behalf of Haven.
  • To manage these, including taking inventory, sorting and photographing the donations for our website and sending thank you letters to donors. 
  • To research and identify local groups, businesses and services for fundraising opportunities.
  • To make contact with the above through letter, email or phone. 
  • To be able to discuss Haven’s services and promote what we do, in order to encourage donations. 
  • To be a point of contact for those that are offering donations or services. 
  • To communicate with other staff members to identify areas of need and other services to contact. 
  • To attend regular supervision sessions.
  • To attend additional in-house and external training events for personal development, as agreed and appropriate.
  • To respect and work within the organisation’s policies on equality and diversity, confidentiality and all other policies and procedures adopted by the organisation at all times.
  • From time-to-time, to carry out additional tasks as agreed in advance as appropriate and within the boundaries of the Volunteer’s responsibility and capacity.

Skills Required:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to listen.
  • Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and work as a team.
  • A non-judgmental and respectful approach.
  • An understanding of equal opportunities.
  • An openness to learning, willing to self-evaluate and challenge.
  • Some understanding of the issues of domestic violence and how children and families can be affected by this.
  • An awareness of the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality in the office.
Personal Circumstances:
  • To be available to complete our 6 session training course (consisting of one half day a week for a six week period).
  • To discuss availability and length of commitment openly and to keep the Volunteer Co-ordinator updated with any changes in availability.
  • To be able to attend monthly/quarterly volunteer team meetings.
  • A commitment to personal development and to be able to attend supervision and relevant training courses.
  • If using own transport to have appropriate insurance.
  • Minimum aged 16.
  • Whilst volunteering with us you will be exposed to information and experiences relating to domestic abuse, and safeguarding both you and our clients from additional trauma is our priority. With regards to this we must ask you to let us know if you have had any experience of domestic abuse either in the past or currently, and if you have received support around this. Please note this will not necessarily prevent you from volunteering with us.
