This case was referred to Haven as there were concerns about D’s anger and aggression at school. D had witnessed abuse from his dad to his mum over a number of years.

D was supported through 1-1 sessions in school over 10 months. We completed some memory work around his past experiences and his feelings about his dad then and now, and played games designed to encourage conversations around relationships, thoughts and feelings.

D was very honest and open about his feelings, though some weeks he did not want to have these conversations. During these visits we played a game or did some drawing which allowed D to have some positive time where he felt relaxed and comfortable.

When asked about our support, D commented that he enjoyed the sessions and told me that they were helping him to talk about his feelings. We also provided him with lots of strategies for his emotions. D recognised that he was quick to get angry and that he wanted to change this.
