Summer activities for children in Sheffield

If you're wondering what to do over the summer school holidays this year, look no further!

We've pulled together a round up of Sheffield based activities, some of which are online.

Free reading challenge from Sheffield Libraries

Sheffield Libraries have launched a free challenge to encourage children to keep reading over the summer holidays.

Suitable for children from birth to 11 years old, the books in the challenge are all about wild animals and wildlife.

To take part, you just need to register at your local Sheffield library. Children then choose which 4 books they would like to read over the summer holidays. A sticker will be given for each one, to go on their collector's card. When all 4 have been read, a certificate and limited-edition pin badge will be issued.

The aim of the challenge is to nurture a love of reading for pleasure and to help maintain and develop reading skills.

Bears of Sheffield sculpture trail

The Bears of Sheffield sculpture trail is here until September, helping to raise money for Sheffield Children's Hospital.

Download the trail map to find out where you can meet 100 little bears, decorated by children and young people from local schools, and 60 big bear sculptures from professional local and international artists.

You can also save the website with a map of the bear locations to your phone.

Following the trail is free but any money raised from donations, sponsored walks and bear-athons will help to create a new cancer and leukaemia ward at the Sheffield Children's Hospital.
