School groups and training programmes

School groups for children and young people, or training for staff

We are specialists in working with children and young people who have been affected by domestic abuse. Our team of experts have developed a range of bespoke training, support packages, and group programmes (including our Bouncing Back group) to help anyone working with children, young people and their wider families.

We also provide a range of ‘whole school approach’ packages for both Primary and Secondary Schools.

The following feedback is from one school teacher:

"The children always looked forward to their sessions and this speaks volumes. They had children smiling and talking in a way when previously they would have been the lost child without a voice. Haven have really supported the children to enable them to speak about their wishes and feelings openly! The children have built so much resilience with the support from Haven staff, making it a brilliant, confidential opportunity for children to really discuss how they feel openly and safely in a group environment."

Our programmes

It isn’t always obvious that domestic abuse may be a factor in the way a child is behaving, or the impact it has on their personal development. Through our training, you will gain a better understanding of how domestic abuse can affect children and young people and the psychological impact on different parts of the brain.

The training we provide specifically focuses on children and young people, and domestic abuse.

We also develop training programmes to suit the specific needs of the organisation, profession or individual. This may be one-off training, advocacy sessions, workshops, or longer programmes.

Our group programmes for children and young people explain how to stay safe, and develop understanding about healthy relationships.

One school we worked with told us:

“Out of these 95 students from KS3, over 70% have experienced some form of domestic abuse, either historically or currently. This data only shows what has been recorded - I believe the figure is higher as students are often told not to discuss what is happening at home. The records show that out of the 70%, over 15% are experiencing multiple trauma from domestic abuse episodes”.
